Open Wardrobe

This summer seems to be very confusing even for the those of us who has an eye for fashion, the dilemia seems to be that absolutely everything is in fashion and I don’t blame people for pairing these items together incorrectly. When I started listing what is currently on trend I was amazed that we are not all running for the looney bin with all this choice paralysis. Some of the options for summer are:

Colours: Pastels, Neon, Colour blocking, Mint, Orange and White

Styles: Aztec, Bold prints, Studs, Sequence, Fringe and Peplums

So now that we know what is what, here are my suggestions as to what to pair with what.

Pastels work really well with other pastels, aztec, studs and neon.

Pastel tips:

Jeans are the best way to wear pastel. I recommend you check out Woolworths as they have a great range of pastel jeans.

Pastel colour make-up is absolutely lovely and so lady-like. Try Inglot make up for some amazing pastel colours.

For shirts and dresses try Mr price and Zara.

Don’t forget:

Pastel is also great with a black or white basic.

Orange goes well with white and aztec.

Orange tips:

Orange is great with aztec, you can find a great skirt at Mr price.

Wearing orange lips or nails are always a bold statement.

I find accessories to be great in orange.

Orange and blue work good together.

Don’t forget:

Wearing orange and brown will make you look washed out so start with small touches orange in your wardrobe.

Mint marries white and metallics.

Mint tips:

Mint works really well with white and nudes.

Don’t over colour code mint, keep it simple and clean.

Zara has great mint jeans.

Don’t forget:

When buying mint, opt for a shade bordering on white rather than a bright mint.

Colour blocking is colour blocking. Stick to that when wearing it.

Colour blocking tips:

Colour blocking is bold, so when you do decide to block, do it properly and don’t be shy.

Stay away from patterns, lace and other prints when colour blocking.

Don’t forget:

Colour blocking will make you stand out from the crowd so please ladies make sure you are perfectly groomed ( as you always should be ) but make sure your outfit and confidence is flawless. Do not wear jeans with a bright colour top, you will just be looking like a person wearing jeans and a bright colour top. Own this look.

Fringe goes well with pastels and neon.

Fringe tips:

Fringe accessories are best to wear this look. So think handbags, shoes or necklaces.

Leather fringe is better.

Keep the rest of your outfit rather simple when wearing fringe.

Don’t forget:

Fringe has a tendency to go tribal/boho so make sure to mix it up with another trends for a more edgy effect.

Studs can go with everything, but stick to one item that is studded.

Studded tips:

Accessories, collars and shoes wear the studded look best.

You dont have to think grunge when wearing studs.

If you do wear clothing with studs try not go for a item completely covered in studs.

Don’t forget:

Studs will eventually fall off, do replace them.

Don’t go overboard with studs, so work on other areas of your outfit to soften your look.

Peplums can be in any colour but avoid a aztec peplum.

Peplum tips:

Be confident when wearing a peplum.

You can pull off this look with a peplum shaped belt.

Skirt peplums are easier to find.

I’ve seen some at Mango.

Don’t forget:

Know which peplum works best for your body type.

So there you have it, how to wear the season’s trends together. But don’t feel overwhelmed by all the choice, stick to one look per day and wear another look the next day.
