Among countless other accolades, he’s competed in 6 Ironman races, won his age group twice, podiumed three times and qualified for the World Champs three times. All the while keeping it clean and tidy on and off the field. He has started and sold a successful company, is the glue at in his current position. The first to get up for the early morning “Bawsride” manages to pin down the most beautiful girl, always friendly, cooks and a wine maker in the making- Raoul de Jongh

Name & location.

Raoul de Jongh, based in Cape Town.

Geek title.

I am project manager at New Media Labs, essentially the meat shield between my genius devs and client. We build custom platforms for our clients, people like Nedgroup Investments, Eye Witness News, Nedgroup Life, AES and we have our own platforms as well like WeLove. WeLove is our own start-up. You can find it at www.welove.net

Explain your style.

I am a sporty guy, but I like to dress a little. Combining the two leads to interesting garb. I love combining bright sneakers (being a PUMA sponsored athlete has its perks) with suit jackets and jeans, for instance. I hate golf shirts, and am not a fan of preppy vibes – I prefer a bit of grunge, mixed with the sports vibe.
Then you have to throw in the pieces of clothing we train and race in, which vary from beautiful moisture wicking shirts to tight lycra tights. It’s a dark place and we don’t always get it right.

Of the outfit you are wearing today, which is your favourite item and why?

My Rapha jeans, undoubtedly. They are the ultimate bike geek item.

Which SA geek do you think dresses well?

The co-founder of the Tuesday bawsride, Marc Perel is a stylish bro, but you know this – you married him. I am always impressed with the outfits Brad Armitage puts together and he is a total geek, even if he is cool.

Where do you shop?

I like to buy clothes overseas as the quality is often stuff I cannot get here, or just simply the brand is not around in South Africa. Apart from the PUMA sponsored gear I get (the Rudolf Dassler range is my favourite) I love the kit from Zara, Country Road, Rapha & All Saints. When I was in Sweden last year I left H&M with a trolley full of stuff. Ok, maybe not a trolley.

Which look will you never wear?

I am just not the white loafer / popped collar jock.

What is your power song?

At the moment, Nero – Me & You.

Whom do you belong to?

My significantly better half would never say that I belong to her, but she is pretty amazing, so let’s say I belong to Dale Bedford
My partner does not dress me, but she offers good advice and I am pretty sure she carefully guides me in the direction her subconscious mind desires.
